Writer or value content creator?

Italian version

In my schooling, which was studded with very high grades especially in science and mathematics disciplines, my performance in producing written works was not as brilliant. I remember the difficulty with which I approached writing, and I often took refuge in choosing tracks with a historical or philosophical theme, so that I could exploit a mnemonic knowledge base and reduce uncertainty in structuring the text. Given these premises, I never thought that life would later offer me the opportunity to produce written works.

In 2014 I published the short story “Suddenly. The crisis of a public company, a chance to change life” It is a short fictional story about love, friendship, crisis and change. A couple of months after the book was published, I attended a two-day seminar on creative writing. I realized that writing complex stories requires knowing and mastering a wide range of literary techniques so that the reader feels part of what he or she is reading. In particular, central to the composition of a story is the characterization of characters and places, which must be presented in such a way that the reader can not only see them, but also experience them.
I then realized that my story was in fact a draft on which a real writer could perhaps have built an articulate and compelling novel.

In January 2025 I published “Experiences of value. Dad’s death turns into a wonderful life lesson.” It is a short autobiographical story in which I take the reader through the intense and unexpected spiritual experience I had after my dad’s death.

Some people occasionally ask me how my writing business is going, but frankly I believe I am not a writer. Writers have knowledge, skills, techniques, cultural background, and the ability to write complex works. However, with real writers I have some things in common, which were the basis for my two stories:

  • Exactly as with all artists of any level and fame, I created two works to communicate a message and generate emotion.
  • I made an effort to respect syntax and grammar, and to write a clear text.
  • My way of writing is not the result of creative writing courses, but is nevertheless the result of all that I have studied with application, my readings, and the thousands of pages written within my profession as an engineer and software architect.
  • Both of my stories have been proofread by professional editors. With satisfaction, I confess that both editors noted the cleanliness and accuracy of my text.

Assuming then that I am not a writer, how can I define my production of written content, which since January 2025 has been enriched by the weekly publication of short articles on this site?

I like to define myself a “value content creator” with a meaning that is a little different from the one that can be found by searching for this definition on Google. Since my articles are aimed at stimulating the emotional and spiritual sphere of readers, I think it is correct to call them “valuable content,” in the sense described in the first article on this site, The definition of value.
While it is true that not everyone can be considered a writer, I believe, however, that each of us can be a “value content creator” and contribute with our knowledge and determination to sow thoughts and words that try to design a better world.
